As soon as September arrives, the green mountains of the Al Hajar ranges famously known as Jebel Al Akhdar turn red. This is when the green pomegranate shrubs start bearing red and juicy pomegranates after a year’s wait.

 Jebel Al Akhdar attracts a lot of tourists during this period. People come here to enjoy the cool weather, fruit picking, hiking through the orchards, visiting the terrace farms, trekking, camping & sight-seeing.

Places to explore in Jebel Akhdar during September:

1. Rummana

Since past few years, an agritourism project called “Rummana” also has become an integral part of this season. You can walk through the pomegranate orchards, drink pomegranate juice, try local food items and purchase plants.

2. Al-Ayn village

This village has it all- the pomegranate orchards, rose gardens, hiking trails and stunning viewpoints of the plateau.

3. Wadi Bani Habib

A walk down hundreds of steps and across the wadi will transport you to the ruins of an old village which seems frozen in time. The houses here are made up of mud, locally available wood, palm etc. The hike to the village can be exhausting if you are not in a fit shape. It's better to watch the village from afar, shop for some locally made oils, perfumes and Omani products while enjoying the view. 

4. Jabal Akhdar Park

It was inaugurated in the year 2025 and has fun activities for kids. It's recommended if you are travelling with your family.

5. Saiq village

Saiq village offers stunning views of the terrace farms in the Saiq plateau where wide varieties of fruits, flowers and vegetables grow.
